Life in Countries is a place to share what everyday life feels like: the things that make a place special, and the challenges a visitor might never see.

Experiences, not universal truths

A country’s average cannot describe everyone’s life. Read individual stories and consider where someone lives, their circumstances, and how long they have been there. Reviews are personal opinions, not independently verified facts.

How ratings work

All categories use a 1–5 scale, where 5 is best. A high cost-of-living rating means life feels affordable. A high transparency rating means the reviewer experiences low corruption.

The overall score is the arithmetic mean of all approved overall ratings, rounded to one decimal place. Category scores are calculated separately from approved category ratings. We do not combine category scores to manufacture an overall rating. Pending, rejected and removed reviews do not count.

Many languages, one experience

Our launch edition is in English. Please write reviews in English for now. Original reviews and their ratings will remain a single record if translations are added in the future.

Country coverage

The directory includes 195 countries. Names and inclusion help people navigate; they do not express a position on sovereignty or borders.
